Audi Q3 2023

Built on the Volkswagen A.G.’s increasingly ubiquitous MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) architecture, the Audi Q3 was all new when introduced in 2019. The Canadian version of the Q3 is exclusively all-wheel drive (Quattro in Audi speak) and powered by two versions of VW’s 2L turbo four. Audi’s nonsensical numbering system denotes the lower power unit as the “40”, with “45” used for the more powerful Q3. The sole transmission offered is a conventional eight-speed automatic.

Styling of the new Q3 is still fresh, and unlike a number of Audis like the current A4 and Q5, it is obvious that the Q3 is a contemporary vehicle. The Q3’s cabin is very chic and constructed from attractive materials.

The Komfort and Progressiv trims are offered with the “40” and 45″ engines. The base 40 Komfort trim, with leather seating, a power driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats and steering wheel and a forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, is comprehensively equipped. The Progressive trim upgrade adds alloy cabin trim, blind spot and rear cross traffic monitors, and a lane departure warning, and a bargain. It costs from $2550 (Komfort) to $2850 (Progressiv), to upgrade from the wheezy “40” to the energetic “45” engine. Moving up from the 45 Komfort to the Progressive is very good value, with the Technik being priced beyond the value of its content. The Q3 is roomy for four, looks fresh and modern, and is a good substitute for the frumpy and ancient-looking Q5.

Predicted reliability is average at best for the first three or four years, declining after that. Turbo wastegate failures are being reported by owners. There is powertrain warranty past the four year 80,000 km basic warranty.
