Genesis GV70 2023
The GV70 is the Genesis entry into the class dominated by the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Compared with the G70 sedan is is based on, the GV70 is roughly the same size except for an additional 230 millimeters in height. Two engines, a 2.5L turbo four or a 3.5L-V6 turbo, are offered. Power reaches all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is silky smooth under most conditions but emits symphonic noises when pushed. The GV70 has a very good ride-handling compromise Genesis has annouced a full electric model that is rated at 320 kW (429 horsepower) and 516 lb.ft. of torque. The 77.4 kWh battery pack is said to move from 10 percent to 80 percent charge in only 18 minutes using a Level 3 charger.
The GV70 is fronted by the gigantic grille and dual bar headlamps that are now familiar styling themes from Genesis. Some individual lines in the side-profile of the GV70 are quite awkward, the overall look is very chic. Inside, the GV70 cabin is a symphony of elipse shapes and premium materials to create a very elegant interior. The driver faces a TFT, configurable gauge package that retains a Genesis eccentricity, a tachometer that spins counter-clockwise. Being a lot taller than its G70 donor vehicle, rear seat riders in the GV70 have more space to repose in.
Like other Genesis vehicles, the GV70 is sold on an all-in, fixed price basis. The base GV70 , the Advanced, with leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, rear climate controls and power adjustable steering wheel, is very well equipped. Migrating to the Advanced Plus adds a Lexicon-branded audio system, a head-up display, a 360 degree camera system and a number of minor items, but is a bit overpriced. The Prestige trim includes a sport appearance package, Nappa process leather, a microfibre headliner, a power-extendable driver’s seat cushion and some small comfort and convenience features, but is spectacularly overpriced. Of the $13,000 separating the 3.5T Sport from 2.5T Advanced, about $8000 is attributable to the engine. The 3.5T Plus upgrade adds Nappa process leather, a 360 degree camera system and a number of comfort and convenience features but is signicantly overpriced. With just over 2200 sold in Canada last year, the GV70 is the best-selling but the brand and represents about 40 percent of total Genesis sales. Despite offering some compelling products, Genesis hasn’t really made a significant dent in the Canadian market.
Above average reliability is predicted for the warranty period. Parts shortages have been reported by owners of older, low-volume Genesis vehicles.
