The F-Pace is the first crossover from Jaguar and has been a tremendous success for the Coventry firm. The four-cylinder variants echo the size and horsepower of major German-branded rivals. The V6-engined model is fast and sounds compelling. Very good handling is countered by an overly firm ride. The steering of the F-Pace is direct, precise and perhaps the best in the segment. Strong braking but brake pedal feel is spongy.

With a dual-panel sunroof, the iOS/Android cellphone interface, L.E.D. heatlights, 12 way power front seats, leather seating, wireless cellphone charging, a Meridian-branded audio system, blind spot and rear cross traffic monitors, front and rear parking sonars and adaptive cruise control, the base P250 is comprehensively equipped. The P250 R-Dynamic S is good value if you like the look. The P400 R-Dynamic S upgrade adds 148 horsepower for $8350 more than its P250 equivalent. Multiple option packages are all just a bit overpriced. The $27,000 extra charged for the P550 SVR V8 places that car in a different category than the other models.

Above average reliability is predicted for both the conventional and hybrid models. Unlike European-branded competitors, the RX can be bought for the long term rather than just leased for four years.
